ec05: day two
day two started with being late and then ended with leaving early. from what i was witnessing that seemed to be par for the course. day two seemed to be when everyone was taking a break.
- once i arrived at the convention i ran into my buddies, jonathon, eric, bill, and kevin. bill
was upset with me because i trashed him about not bloggin when he did. apparently my cache wasn't clearing out and i was seeing his old site (to tell you the truth, i never questioned it cause i've looked at the same stuff for over a month). anyhow, to prove his point we insisted that we check so we skipped our learning community on humanities for being blog geeks. passed by wes and dj on the way there and dj ended up meeting up with us at the "digital lounge" as we became increasingly geeky with our blogging. basically we made comments on each others blogs (sitting next to each other) and then took pictures of jonathon to prove that he is "emo." found out that andrew jones highlighted me in the list of bloggers from the convention, i smiled ear to ear.. i had arrived.
- the blogger luncheon was next on the agenda but i had to run, my office called and i had to go put on a training for one of my coworkers. i was upset i had to miss the luncheon i thought it would be fun, and with the way our geeky-ness was going, it might have been a riot. from what i heard, the luncheon was great. apparently a lot of people like jonathon, no surprise to us here in nashville, he's awesome and one of my best friends. eric said it was cool to just meet folks and actually talk about the stuff that they blog about.
- i returned from my office obligations to wander the halls. i dropped in with session led by michael card. he's one of my favorite artisans, but now he's writing books. he's way intense so i knew i was getting into something, but i like him (actually met him twice before when i was working at rei, that was cool for me). we were talking about lament. from what i gathered from him is that he, and those like him, have an earnest need to lament and with God in order to find your way to praising God. only then can they truly worship. one of his great quotes from the session: "the worst thing i can say to my wife is not, 'i don't love you' it's 'i don't need you' God is the same." you can check my notes.
after wandering for awhile i found some friends and headed to the afternoon learning community. scripture with brian mclaren and brian walsh. i had heard some great things about this duo and was excited to see how the community learning evolved. brian and brian didn't disappoint and our community was great. we had a big lull in the middle, but b&b and the peeps came back strong. all i know from this community, brian walsh rocks, he totally threw men into an uncomfortable spot trying to understand this whole empire stuff. dang, now i have to buy a new book (colossians remixed). you can check out my notes.
