ec05: final day

because i had a prior church engagment that didn't pan out i was able to make the last day of the convention. so the day started with driving all over nashville and ends tonight with eric's concert @ caffine.

i dropped into the postmodern evangelism session. i started taking notes, but really wasn't feelin it so i left. i aimless wandered from that point. stopped by the digital lounge to aimlessly check my email. you could tell that the convention was ending as the bookstore was closing, all the books were pretty much pilaged. i was slightly upset that there wasn't any extra's of tony's book which were the freebie from last night, since i didn't get to make last night. oh well, i bought his session cd (that sounds very nashville, "session cd").
once the session let out people started walking the halls again. you could see that people were gone, not nearly as many folks as prior. people also walking around toting their luggage was a good indicator as well. i ran into terry carty and michael williams and they were already engrossed in conversation. they stopped and circled around me to talk about the event to this point. terry's statement, and i agree whole heartedly, is that the power of this gathering was not in the sessions/workshops or the worships, but that the true power of this event was contained in the learning communities and the conversations that spilled out into the hallways, coffee shops, dinner and lunch spots. what was next was funny, terry said that "we (speaking as the umc in middle tn) need to give gavin and jonathon freedom to put together and structure a similar the convention to get our churches talking. keep the core topics; church, humanities, truth, and scripture and devise learning communities. i immediately laughed.. "gavin & jonathon and structure?" so he suggested utilizing erin, i affirmed i would totally have erin with us. she's incredibly skilled & gifted to help the people of the umc. so i am now wrestling with how this will work, it should be exciting.
the final session ended with words from brian that we needed to keep the conversation going. just because the convention ended it didn't need to stop. he also said he felt it wouldn't stop, but for me this resounded from the prior conversation. we will take this energy and enthusiasm and begin a conversation with our mainline church. it might be grassroots and it might be a church plant. who knows?

i well up with living water now and am excited to keep that water flowing.
