the gbod of the united methodist church is starting to recognize the emergent church. looking over the particular articles written, they talked about a particular umc which could be considered emergent, green meadow umc. who would have thought, it's here in tn.
i feel that the umc is in the conversation of the emergent church in order to bring credibility to it. if we are here to question & support the movement, then it is less likely to be considered a backlash of upset white males who want to do their own thing. i think this is interesting as it may signify that emergent doesn't need to be a breakoff of the mainline church (which is the impression i got when tony "threw down the gauntlet), but that the principles of worship, mission, relationships, & spiritual formation can be brought to life within the walls of mainline churches, or atleast the methodist church.
