a greeting from john wesley is something like, "how is it with your soul?" in tennessee we use a more grammatically correct, "how goes your soul?" so i ask you, my readers, how goes your soul?
for me these last number of days have been extremely tough. my work for the state has hit full-stride. january and february are busy months for our churches youth ministry (retreats, worship services, retreats), and tonight erin and myself were the blessers for "mobile jam" a monthly ecumenical gathering of youth groups in the winchester, tn. everything, i think, has gone wonderfully well, but it is times like these that take a toll on my soul. my prayer life suffers the most. instead of praying the hours, i can only make time for the mystical of the Jesus Prayer. don't get me wrong, the Jesus Prayer is wonderful, and has done wonders for me. however, it is not what fills me completely. a great thing though is that i have been going through these trying times for almost two years. in these two years i have been given more blessings and gifts from God than i had in prior years when i had a "normal life."
my soul is tired and yearning, it wants to be something that it hasn't figured out yet. thank goodness, God is moving in my soul regardless of my over-programming and misunderstandings of his workings in my life.
so, "how goes your soul?"
