watching the news tonight a report came on saying that another member of the 278th Tennessee National Guard Unit was killed in action. However, that's all they said. The named hadn't been released as of yet and still hasn't and that's my trouble.
as many of you (my faithful few readers) know, the war in Iraq has become all the more personal with my little brothers deployment to Iraq with the 278th. naturally hearing news of a death in the unit and not knowing the name makes for uneasiness and wonderings if i will see him again. reading over the article write up of this news report it mentions that it is someone from the "Regimental Combat Team." not being an army person i haven't a clue if that is a group within the unit, or if the whole unit is referred to by that name. i've said that the scary part for us here is that we don't have any control over the people we love over there. we don't truly understand how they' enable themselves to fight, protect, control, and sacrifice. for me, i rationalize it in ways to say, that it couldn't be him, and it probably isn't, but who's to know. what i do know, another soldier has died and that is all that matters.
update: Be in Prayer, Stephen Kennedy (of the 278th) and another U.S. soldier were killed Monday in fierce fighting that followed an attack on a mixed force of about 25 U.S. troops and 22 Iraqi Army troops by hidden insurgents. full article
